(7 mar 1844, New Canaan, Conn., EE.UU.–21 sep. 1915, Nueva York, N.Y.).

Reformador social estadounidense. Uno de los primeros manifestantes contra el aborto y la pornografía, logró la promulgación (1873) de una ley federal muy estricta que prohibía el transporte de material obsceno por correo (ley de Comstock). El mismo año fundó la Sociedad para la supresión del vicio, la que dirigió hasta su muerte. En calidad de agente especial de Correos de EE.UU. (1873–1915), realizó espectaculares visitas sin aviso a editoriales y vendedores. Entre los libros que publicó se incluyen Traps for the Young [Trampas para la juventud] (1883) y Morals Versus Art [La moral contra el arte] (1888).
